Inspection process

From walk-around to certificate of conformity.

Every inspection follows the same five-stage discipline so your operations team and your insurer are always speaking the same language.

Stage 01

Document review

OEM manual, prior inspection reports, repair history and operator log reviewed before mobilising.

Stage 02

Visual & functional walk-around

Structure, hydraulics, controls, safety devices, ropes, sheaves, hooks — checked against checklist and photographed.

Stage 03

NDT & load test

NDT on critical welds and pin attachments, plus proof load or operational test as code requires.

Stage 04

Findings & sentencing

Defects classified A/B/C, photographed, with recommended repair or rejection — cited against LOLER, ASME or API.

Stage 05

Certificate & sticker

Certificate of Conformity issued within 5 working days — with next inspection date and unique inspection ID.

Frequently asked

Questions our clients ask most often.

What does a third-party inspection involve?+

Independent inspection by a qualified inspector who is not the equipment owner or operator. We provide pre-use, periodic (typically 6 or 12 months), thorough examination, post-incident and load-test witnessing — covered by formal report with photos, defect lists and recommendations.

Are your inspections LOLER and ASME compliant?+

Yes. Our inspections align with LOLER 1998 (UK lifting regulations widely adopted in Oman O&G), ASME B30 series (US crane standards), API codes, and Omani regulations. Reports cite the specific clause references.

Is GCS a LEEA member?+

Yes. GCS is a Full Member of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA), the global body governing lifting equipment competence. LEEA membership is the de-facto standard for credible lifting inspections in Oman.

How quickly can you mobilise an inspection?+

For routine inspections in Muscat, Sohar, or Duqm, mobilisation is typically within 2 working days. Emergency post-incident inspections can be mobilised same-day. Reports are issued within 5 working days of inspection.

What equipment do you inspect?+

We cover 6 categories: mobile cranes (all-terrain, rough-terrain, truck-mounted), tower cranes, lifting accessories (slings, shackles, hooks), MEWPs (scissor & boom lifts), forklifts/telehandlers, and earthmoving equipment (excavators, loaders, dozers, dump trucks).
