Frequently asked

Questions our clients ask most often.

When should a lifting hook be rejected?+

A hook is rejected if the throat opening has increased beyond ~5% (or OEM limit), it shows twist beyond 10°, wear beyond 8% of section, a missing or defective latch, or any crack found by MPI. We measure and sentence each hook individually.

Is GCS a LEEA member?+

Yes. GCS is a Full Member of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA), the global body governing lifting equipment competence — the de-facto standard for credible lifting inspections in Oman.

Why is MPI used on shackles and hooks?+

Magnetic particle inspection reveals surface and near-surface cracks at high-stress areas (hook saddle, shackle crown and pin) that a visual check alone would miss. It is quick, sensitive and ideal for ferromagnetic lifting hardware.

How quickly can GCS mobilise a shackle and hook inspection in Oman?+

For routine work in Muscat, Sohar or Duqm, mobilisation is typically within 2 working days. Emergency and post-incident jobs can be mobilised same-day, with reports issued within 5 working days.
