NDT workflow

From scan to defect map — every result evidenced.

Every method follows the same five-stage discipline so your QA records hold up under any audit.

Stage 01

Procedure & calibration

Method-specific written procedure approved by Level III. Reference blocks calibrated against traceable standards.

Stage 02

Surface preparation

Surface cleaned to method-specific roughness; temperature, accessibility and access permits validated.

Stage 03

Scanning & data capture

Trained Level II / III techs scan the test object — every signal, indication and reading captured digitally.

Stage 04

Evaluation & sizing

Findings classified against ASME, API or AWS acceptance criteria. Defects sized, located and characterised.

Stage 05

Report & recommendations

Full NDT report with images, A/B/C-scans, sentencing and engineering recommendations — within 5 working days.

Frequently asked

Questions our clients ask most often.

What NDT methods does GCS offer in Oman?+

GCS performs ultrasonic testing (UT, PAUT, TOFD), magnetic particle inspection (MPI), dye penetrant testing (DPT), radiographic testing (RT with X-ray and Ir-192/Se-75 gamma sources), eddy current testing (ECT), hardness testing and PMI.

Are your NDT technicians certified?+

Yes. All NDT technicians are certified to ASNT SNT-TC-1A Level II or Level III in their respective methods. Certification records are available for client audit.

Can NDT be performed without taking equipment out of service?+

Most surface methods (MPI, DPT, visual) and ultrasonic thickness gauging can be performed in-service. Radiographic testing usually requires controlled-access exclusion zones but the equipment doesn't always need shutdown. We plan around your operating constraints.

Which NDT method is best for weld inspection?+

It depends on the weld and acceptance criteria. Surface defects: MPI (ferromagnetic) or DPT (non-ferrous). Volumetric defects: UT for in-service welds, PAUT for complex geometries with sizing accuracy, TOFD for crack height, RT for documentary record. We help you choose.

Do you provide NDT for offshore and marine applications?+

Yes. Our crews are mobilised across Sohar Industrial Port, Duqm SEZ and Salalah Port for marine NDT including underwater inspection coordination, lifting accessory testing and vessel/platform structural NDT.

Got welds, vessels or lifting gear that need eyes inside?
